NSPCC
(National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children)
"The NSPCC
has a vision - a society in which all children are loved,
valued and able to fulfil their potential. Our mission is
to end cruelty to children.
Nelson Mandela once said that you can measure a society on
how it treats its children. The NSPCC aims to achieve a fundamental
shift in attitudes and behaviour towards children.
If our society is to change, we need everyone to share this
belief. However the reality of child abuse in the UK is shocking:
- Each week at least one child dies in the UK following
cruelty or neglect - 600 more are added to child protection
registers.
- There are at least 110,000 convicted sex offenders in
this country alone, and 26% of recorded rape victims are
children.
- Children in the UK are more likely to be killed in their
own home by members of their family, than anywhere else
in society.
Cruelty to children is everywhere, and costs the UK over
1 Billion pounds each year. Our 24 hour Helpline, along with
our many local centres and public campaigns, are some of the
ways in which we are able to reach out to those affected by
cruelty. These are the shocking statistics, but the NSPCC
is here to help, and with your support we can make a difference.
Cruelty and abuse must stop, FULL STOP.
